Betrayal

I feel kind of like a traitor saying it, but I've decided that as long as you have a powerful enough computer to run it, MS Word 2007 might be okay. I've been using 03 since it came out, and it has long been my favorite, but when I needed a new computer recently 07 was my only option.

That "if" above is a big iff, though (iff is shorthand for "if and only if," for those of you not familiar). Vista and 07 are huge memory hogs. I waited until 4G computers were cheap enough to be reasonable before I considered "upgrading" to Vista. Oh, and I waited until my "upgrade" includes a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out... though we'll see what folks think of 7, come that day.

And no, I do not want to switch to Mac or Linux. Microsoft may be a Big Evil Corporation, but it's my big evil corporation. Kthxbye.

Besides, my point is, 07 and I might get along after all.

  1. I'm a sucker for OneNote2007 and that comes with Microsoft 2007, so I've been converted. I mean, something that has tabs, folder, automatic saving, subpages, and the ability to write anywhere on a page? Win. I like tabs...

  2. As I said before, I loved MS Office '07 the couple times I had the opportunity to use it at FSC. It was pretty darn awesome, and the learning curve doesn't seem to be too high.

...I, on the other hand, am trying out a Macbook Pro for my new laptop. With Office'08. *innocent look*

  4. I don't want a mac-- didn't I say that? :p I've had mac's in the past, and I don't actually have anything against them, but I would need to replace most of my programs, many of the peripherals I need due to my CTS don't work with mac's, many of the games I like don't run on mac's, and the base price for a less-powerful mac is higher than a more-powerful PC. Vista is the trade-off, but for me, I've decided that's a trade I'm willing to make.

  5. I felt the same way about Vista when I had to get a new computer. (mine was stolen from my house). So after having to go through that AND thinking I lost all my stories (thank god I backed them all up on my father's computer) I thought Vista was going to be the devil. BUT after a year with this computer now I can safely tell you that I like Vista. Once you get used to it, it has some pretty nice features. Though Internet Explorer 8 is WHOLE different story!! lol

  6. I have two completely different things to say, one which is non sequitir to your blog:

I'll start with the relevant comment:
I've been a sucker for MS Word 2003 and I have also been forced to convert since I bought my first laptop recently (OMG! Starting college soon!). Right now it does look like the devil to me. Not used to the weird fortmat thing it has going on (but alas, life's all about getting used to new things, right?) Hopefully we can all become friends with vita and the new MS Word....

And now for the slgihtly irrelevant comment: Have I told you that you are my hero? =D
My boyfriend absolutely HATES reading *cough*futureengineeringmajor*cough* Oddly enough, after much compromising and cheap marketing skills, I got him to read Hawksong. He read 40 pages in a day! I was like "Holy ship, is this the same guy I'm with?" We were both in the same AP English classes and he would never read 40 pages voluntarily (procrastination), even for his grade so it was very surprising to me. He liked it, and now he's borrowing Snakecharm and Falcondance from me. Thank you so much for being so awesome!

(P.S. It would be pretty awesome if we could arrange a trip to UCLA for you one of these days. =] )

  9. gah the tragedy! I just purchased a macbook pro and i couldnt believe how much better it was than vista. I am still debating between gettins MS office and iWork so I have resorted to using a MS Office freeware thats very similar and can maintain all the .doc/.docx etc formats on mac called 'NeoOffice'
